6 Tips to Unpack Quickly After a Move

Although unpacking is not as exhausting and stressful as packing for a move, it can still be time-consuming and tiring.

After all, you will have to open several boxes and start organizing the items before or as you use them. And the sooner you start unpacking and organizing your belongings, the sooner you will make living in your new home more comfortable and convenient.

You can speed up the whole unpacking process and make it less taxing by following these tips shared by trusted professional removalists from Sydney:

  1. Start unpacking boxes with your kitchen essentials

The kitchen is the room that is used frequently by every member of the household. In addition, after the stress of moving, you and your family will certainly be hungry and thirsty. After all, fast food and takeout can get pretty old quickly.

This is why you should start unpacking those cartons which contain the kitchen items you need to cook and serve your family something filling and nutritious.

Begin by taking out the essential items such as the:

  • Kettle
  • A couple of pots and pans
  • Cooking utensils
  • Chopping board and knives
  • Dishes, glasses and cutlery

If, however, you are still too tired to cook and will have food delivered to your home, you can limit yourself to unpacking those boxes containing your dining essentials.

If you labeled all your boxes correctly, you will be able to do this quickly and leave the items you don’t need as yet in their boxes.

  1. Prioritize the bathroom as well

As soon as you arrive in your new home, everyone will be making a beeline for the bathroom to refresh themselves.

As such, unpack the box that contains toiletries and fresh towels. Make sure that anyone who wants to take a bath will find everything he or she needs in the bathroom such as a bar of soap, shampoo, and towels.

In addition, don’t forget to put the toothbrushes, toothpaste, and toilet paper in the bathroom.

  1. Unpack boxes containing bedtime necessities

Whether you and your family arrive early or late in the day in your new home, everyone will need to have a comfy bed to sleep on at night. This means unpacking those cartons which contain the beddings and pillows. If you placed a few of these in your essentials box, unpack it first.

If there are no beds in your new home, you need to set them up as soon as possible. Get help with doing this if you think you will have a hard time setting up the bed frames.

  1. Take out the essentials first for each room

One of the best things about unpacking is you don’t have to work within a strict timetable. As such, you don’t have to rush to bring all items out of their boxes.

Think about the things you and your family use every day in each room and take them out first. These can include the tableside lamps, hairdryer, tools, cleaning materials and supplies, books, etc.

Keep children’s toys, picture frames, vases, and other decor in their boxes until you have decided how you want to arrange the furniture and the rooms themselves.

  1. Get your kids to help you

If your kids are old enough to help you, get them involved with unpacking the boxes. Let them unpack the boxes that contain their belongings. If they have separate bedrooms, let them organize their rooms in the process as well.

By doing so, you get to keep them preoccupied while you start organizing your new home. Additionally, this chore will help them get to know and settle into the new house faster.

  1. Break down boxes as soon you have emptied them

There is no doubt that many of the boxes you used for the move are large and bulky. They eat up space and can be constantly in the way.

To keep your home organized and free of clutter, flatten each carton as soon as you have taken out its contents. Dispose of them if you don’t have plans of using them in the future. In case you want to save them, store them in a closet or in the garage first.

By keeping these boxes where you won’t see them, you will avoid the temptation of filling them again with other things you don’t need now. You will save yourself the effort of unpacking these boxes in the future, too.

Even if you want to have an organized and comfortable home quickly, you have to know that there is no need to rush through the whole unpacking process.

Start by bringing out all the essentials first and get the whole family involved. Pretty soon, you won’t see a single box in your new home, and everything will be in its proper place.
